Residents across Torbay are being invited to learn more about fostering this May as the area prepares to celebrate Foster Care Fortnight 2026 (11–24 May).
Organised annually by The Fostering Network, this year’s campaign theme, “This is Fostering,” shines a spotlight on real stories from foster carers and the children they support, while encouraging more people to consider fostering.
Throughout May, Torbay Council’s Fostering team will be out and about at a range of local events across the Bay and wider Devon, offering informal opportunities for residents to find out more.
Councillor Nick Bye, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said the campaign is an important moment to recognise the impact of foster carers in the community.
“Our Fostering team are looking forward to getting out and about at events across the Bay and surrounding areas throughout May,” he said. “Foster Care Fortnight puts the spotlight on the vital role our local foster carers play in supporting children in our community.
“If you are thinking about fostering and want to find out more, why not come along to one of the events to chat to our team.”

What support is available?
Torbay Council says it offers a comprehensive package for foster carers, including training, a dedicated social worker, mentoring from experienced carers, and access to a local support network.
There are also community perks and family-friendly events throughout the year, alongside benefits such as local attractions access and experiences.
Thinking about fostering?
Fostering can make a life-changing difference to children and young people who need stability, care, and support. Anyone interested can attend one of the events or contact the team directly via phone or email.
Torbay is also part of Fostering South West, a collaboration between 15 local councils working together to recruit and support foster carers across the region.
