Torquay Tropical is returning to the English Riviera this September, with the free event expanding to two days following its debut last year.
The festival will take place in Banjo Gardens and Princess Gardens on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, bringing live music, dance, food and family-friendly entertainment to Torquay seafront.
Running from 11am until 8pm on both days, Torquay Tropical will feature a mixture of local, regional and international performers, with music ranging from reggae and salsa to soca, Afrobeat, Latin rhythms, steel pan and roots.
The event has been developed by Global Carnivalz with funding support from Arts Council England and is being brought to Torquay by Continental Drifts in collaboration with Chris Tofu, Pax Nindi, Global Local and Torbay Council.
Organisers say the festival aims to bring people together through music and culture while providing a platform for both emerging and established artists.
This year’s headline act is Jamaican reggae vocalist Earl 16, also known as Earl Daley, whose career has spanned more than five decades.
The line-up also includes Sam Redmore, Chris Tofu, Pax Nindi, Hiphoppotamus & Friends, Los Costureros, Malavita and Newtown Roots.
Chris Tofu, founder of Continental Drifts, is also involved in this year’s festival alongside Zimbabwean musician and cultural ambassador Pax Nindi.
Food and drink will form part of the weekend, with local businesses among those taking part. Bays Brewery will operate the event bars, Offshore Bar and Kitchen will provide food concessions and Paignton-based Caribbean street food business The Jerk Yard will also be serving food throughout the festival.

Cllr Jackie Thomas, Torbay Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture and Events, said: “Following a fantastic first year, we’re delighted to welcome Torquay Tropical back to the English Riviera in an expanded two-day format.
“The festival brings something unique to our events programme, celebrating music, culture and community from around the world while helping attract visitors and support local businesses.
“Events such as this play an important role in enhancing Torbay’s reputation as a vibrant year-round destination.”
Festival director Chris Tofu said: “We’re excited to bring Torquay Tropical back for a second year and to expand the event into a full weekend festival. Our vision is to create a celebration of global music, carnival culture and community that is accessible to everyone.
“Thanks to support from Arts Council England and our partners, we’re able to showcase exceptional artists while creating opportunities for people to experience different cultures through music, food, dance and shared celebration.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for what promises to be a colourful and unforgettable weekend by the sea.”
Torquay Tropical takes place from 11am to 8pm on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September at Banjo Gardens and Princess Gardens. Entry is free.
