Wellswood in Bloom brings colour, creativity and community spirit to the village

Wellswood has once again burst into colour this June as the second annual Wellswood in Bloom competition gets underway. Organised by the Wellswood Community Partnership, the initiative invites residents and visitors to enjoy the vibrant floral displays created by local shops and businesses—and to cast their vote for a winner before the end of the month.

Created to support Wellswood’s wide variety of independent businesses, the competition also celebrates improvements to Wellswood Green and ongoing efforts to preserve the area’s unique heritage, including the recently introduced Wellswood Shopfront Design Guidelines.

Last year’s winners, The Sanctuary of Wellswood, were awarded the Patrick Joyce Memorial Trophy, named in honour of the late Wellswood councillor. Patrick was a proud Torbay resident and much-loved public servant, described by colleagues as “a man of integrity” who was “passionate in his role as a councillor”. The trophy is a tribute to his commitment to Wellswood and his support for initiatives that strengthen local pride and community connection.

Amber from The Sanctuary said:
“The competition is a wonderful way to get the whole community together and celebrate summer with a riot of colourful flowers and beautiful window displays. We were so delighted to be named as the first ever winners and really hope everyone loves our fun and creative display for this year.”

Local resident Yyvone Edmonson added:
“It looks so pretty, colourful and brightens everything up.”

Members of the public are encouraged to explore the businesses taking part and vote for their favourites. The winner will be chosen by public vote and announced in July.

To vote, follow the Wellswood Community Partnership on Facebook, email: wellswood@torbaycommunities.co.uk

Or post a voting slip in the green postbox opposite the Kent’s Pub. Voting slips are available from participating shops but plain paper will also be accepted.
