Homes evacuated as Fire crews battle barn blaze

Fire crews were called to reports of an agricultural buling on fire in Blagdon this morning.

Initially 2 fire engines from Paignton were mobilised to the incident.

How Torquay Votes

On arrival crews requested a further 2 fire appliances from Torquay and Brixham plus a water bowser from Torquay. An incident command unit and support vehicle from Totnes was also sent.

Later crews from Buckfastleigh and Newton Abbot were also mobilised.

The fire service have confirmed the building  contains asbestos and a hazardous materials and environmental protection officer is at the scene.

Nearby homes have been evacuated and a 200m cordon set up as there is possibly an acetylene cylinder involved.
