Start the New Year by making a New Year Resolution to recycle as much as possible. Torbay Council is encouraging residents who are taking down their festive decorations to recycle as much as they can, including Christmas trees, cards, empty bottles, cardboard packaging and food from the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
TOR2 will be collecting Christmas trees at the following, designated points on Saturday 14 January 2017 and Saturday 21 January 2017 from 9am until 1pm
- Brixham College, Ranscombe Road, Brixham
- Torquay Coach Station, Lymington Road, Torquay
- Household Waste Recycling Centre, Tor Road, Paignton (7 days a week)
Recycled trees are shredded and turned into compost on a local farm.
Torbay Council’s Executive Lead with responsibility for waste, Councillor Mark King, said: “Many of us might still have lots of things to recycle from the Christmas and New Year celebrations. It may be tempting to throw away things like empty bottles, food, packaging and Christmas cards, but we urge you to recycle as much as you can.
“Our website has information on what can and cannot be recycled and where local recycling points are around Torbay. Please take some time to sort through your waste and recycle everything you can.”
General Manager at TOR2, Peter Woodhead, said: “Christmas and New Year is a busy time for all of us and due to the festive period, we all produce more material that could be recycled. Please take the time to recycle and help Torbay reduce the costs of disposing of waste material. If you need help and advice on how to recycle more, please visit our web site”
Christmas cards without glitter can go in your cardboard recycling boxes at home. You can also take your old Christmas cards down to Marks & Spencers, Morrisons and Sainsburys in January. Sainsburys is also accepting Christmas cards, wrapping paper (including plastic wrapping), ribbon and Christmas tree lights.
