“We have had reports of rogue traders operating in the Aller Park and Ogwell area’s of Newton Abbot.
Workmen with Irish accents have attended an address and informed an elderly resident that she had a loose roof tile which needed treating, they originally quoted £4500 for the work, which the resident verbally agreed to, no relevant paperwork was completed.

“The males began to jet wash the roof, when a neighbour was informed the workmen were asked to stop all work, however they demanded £500 for the small amount of work they had carried out.

“We urge members of the community to be vigilant regarding cold callers, rogue traders and employing tradesmen,”

They also posted the following advice:

*Use the services of legitimate companies and online reviewing services www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk

*Get 2 or more estimate prices to get a fair and sensible quote.
*Always ask for relevant paperwork and don’t forget you have the right to refuse commencement of work.

If you are unsure or suspicious of people offering services, contact the police on 101.
