5 people have been injured after a collision in Ipplepen this afternoon.

Police, fire and ambulance crews and the air ambulance were called to the collision between two cars on the A381 Totnes Road at 1pm today.

The occupants of one car, a woman and two young children, have sustained serious injuries and have been taken to hospital.

One child has been taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital and the other child has been taken by ambulance to Torbay District Hospital.

Two fire appliances from Newton Abbot attended the incident and requested the Heavy Rescue Vehicle from Middlemoor.

Two people were extracted from the second vehicle by fire crews and were taken to Torbay Hospital.

The A381 is closed at Causeway Cross and Foredown Road and is expected to remain shut for some time.

Diversions are in place but police are advising motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route for travel at this time.

Updates to follow as more information becomes available.
