12 new family homes have been completed in Preston, Paignton

Westward Housing and Galliford Try have completed eight new homes for affordable rent and four for shared ownership at Preston Down Road, Paignton on a former hotel site, the properties have been built to a code for sustainable homes level 3 with high levels of insulation.

The housing need in this area is high with 1616 registered on Devon Home Choice for Torbay and recent family homes attracting 81 bids per property.

Anthony Bassett, Interim Development Manager at Westward said:  “We are pleased to work with Torbay Council and the Homes and Communities Agency to provide quality homes which give local people a chance to rent or even buy into shared ownership affordably.”

The new homes, which are were completed in March, include 5 x 2 bedroom flats, 3 x 3 bedroom houses let through Devon Home Choice and the shared ownership consists of a 1 x 2 bedroom house and 3 x 3bedroom houses available through Help to Buy South West.

These new homes are situated near the popular historic Cockington and Round Down Wood, which are within walking distance from Paignton town centre.

The homes have been delivered in partnership with Torbay Council and provide top quality affordable accommodation for local people, taken directly from the council’s housing waiting lists. The Homes and Communities Agency provided grant funding as part of their funded programme.
