Airband today announced they are leading the way with their mixed technology network. Through a partnership with Silicon Valley-based Tarana, Airband is the first operator in Europe to deploy Tarana’s next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) platform and is now offering customers fibre-class speeds of up to 400 Mbps.
Airband has been building and operating broadband networks for 15 years and has established itself as a unique provider by not allowing themselves to be limited to a single technology. Airband’s network consists of a mixture of ngFWA and fibre connections spanning more than 440,000 premises across 200 communities, providing connectivity to customers who need it most.
In partnership with Tarana, Airband has been trialling ngFWA technology to deliver ultra-fast speeds at ranges up to 7 kilometres. Making Airband the only network able to deliver these speeds over long distances to residential customers in the UK. Airband currently has 450 masts within its network inventory and is replacing legacy equipment to upgrade their existing customers and expand their coverage area. Five ngFWA sites have already been deployed and are delivering 400+ Mbps service to live Airband customers. Although the packages are being sold as 400Mbps, Airband Engineers are reporting speeds over 600Mbps at installation. [KB1]
Tarana has reinvented fixed wireless by developing true interference cancellation technology and eliminating the need for line of sight. These features greatly expand the scope of reliable broadband and changes the game for internet service providers. Utilising their established fibre network as backhaul, Airband demonstrates the true benefits of an innovative hybrid network.
Speed packages are available under Airband’s AirSpeed product category and range in price from £30 per month to £40 per month. And, like Airband’s fibre packages benefit from free installation, fixed price contracts and limited time promotional offers.

“With Tarana, we’re putting connectivity first.” said, Kash Rahman, Managing Director at Airband. “ngFWA has made it simpler for us to grow our network and connect more homes and business. We look forward to bringing high-speed service to more communities that are waiting for a better broadband option.”
Basil Alwan, Tarana CEO, added, “We are thrilled to see ngFWA technology taking off in the UK. Airband is dedicated to their customers, and we are honoured to support them as they expand into new territories to further narrow the country’s digital divide.”
