All schools in the UK are set to close this Friday in response to the current coronavirus pandemic.

Education secretary Gavin Williamson made the announcement just after 5pm. He said schools are finding it increasingly difficulty to continue as normal.

Schools will remain closed ‘until further notice’.

Schools will however, remain open to children of key workers (NHS staff, police and delivery drivers have been mentioned) and those who are vulnerable (those who have social workers or who have health or educational care plans).

Exams will not take place in May and June.

It is hoped this will slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Scotland and Wales had announced closures earlier today.

Updates as information becomes available.
