Appeal for information after woman attacked and robbed

Detectives are appealing to the public for information after a woman was attacked and robbed in Newton Abbot.

The woman was approached at by two men asking for a light for a cigarette at the bus stop outside the railway station. She was then kicked by one of the men and fell to the floor, the second man grabbed her handbag.

The woman was further assaulted during the struggle before the offenders grabbed her purse from the bag and made off. The purse contained around £100.

The incident happened on Thursday 21st May in daylight, around 2pm.

The woman, who is in her 40s and from Torquay, sustained bruising to her chest and leg during the robbery.

Detectives are now seeking two men aged in their 20s. One was described as very tall and thin and was wearing a black tracksuit.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist police in their enquiries.

Detective Constable Katy Deer, from Newton Abbot CID, said: “The victim was left very shaken by this incident. We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the offence to come forward and contact police.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who recognises the description of the suspects and can help us to identify them.”
