ARC Marine has been named as one of the best in the UK’s £40bn maritime sector after being shortlisted in the first ever Maritime UK Awards.
ARC Marine has been shortlisted in the Start-Up of The Year Category after impressing industry judges.
ARC Marine is an eco-engineering company whose main purpose is to accelerate reef creation using their patented Innovation Reef Cubes.
Currently operating out of Devon & Cornwall, ARC Marine have a manufacturing plant in Truro where Reef Cubes are produced and also have staff at the Brixham Environmental Laboratory located in Torbay. World class facilities provided by the University of Plymouth allow them to conduct biological and behavioural experiments on the effectiveness of their reef structures in a wide range of conditions.
ARC Marine have projects in the pipeline at the European offshore deployment centre (EOWDC) transforming offshore windfarms into thriving reef habitats as well as the Oil and Gas industry. Reef Cubes protect subsea foundations and pipelines whilst repairing rocky reef areas in an industry which has damaged the marine ecosystem over the years.
Tom Birbeck, Managing Director said: “We are thrilled to be named one of the 3 finalists for the first ever Maritime UK awards. It’s been a crazy journey for ARC Marine the past few years and to be recognised by the industry after all our hard work is great for the team and marine conservation as a whole”
Ben Murray, Director of Maritime UK said: “Our judges have been blown away by the quality of entries in these inaugural awards. The bar really has been set high and the panel have had a difficult task whittling it down to the final shortlist. Those who have been named as finalists should be very proud.”
Stuart Baker, Head of Local Growth at the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Chair of the Maritime UK Regional Council, added: “We’ve always known the maritime industries are innovative, but these award submissions have really affirmed that. We’ve seen some really interesting work that’s taking place and we can’t wait to unveil the winners in September.”
Tom Birbeck went on to say: “This is ARC Marine’s 2nd award nomination in the past 12 months. Our first award was from the European Union project Marine i for our invention, Reef Cubes. What makes this nomination so great is it recognises our business model and the ethos ARC Marine represents in turning marine conservation issues into problems that can be solved by eco minded business’s and therefore creating a new market for the maritime sector worldwide.”
The Maritime UK Awards are being hosted by the Solent LEP and will take place at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour on 19 September, as thousands of people flock to the city for the Southampton International Boat Show.
