Become a Fitness Instructor with Move it or Lose it

Move it or Lose it is on the lookout for motivated people to join their team of instructors to deliver community exercise classes for over 60s in Torbay.

With funding and support from Transform Ageing and Torbay Community Development Trust, Move it or Lose it is launching a training programme for 20 recruits (including 10 from Torbay) to create a new squad of exercise instructors.

Recruits will be provided with training and equipment to run exercise classes with people over 60 to lead more active, healthier and ultimately happier lifestyles. The classes they’ll lead will include flexibility, aerobic, balance and strength (FABS), along with fun activities and socialising opportunities to help combat loneliness and isolation for people in later life.

Move it or Lose it is a fitness CIC which delivers exercise programmes and classes across the UK for older people and those with limited mobility, to encourage them to keep active in later life.

Julie Robinson, CEO of Move it or Lose it Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be working with Transform Ageing to improve the lives of thousands of older people in the South West helping them to live healthier and happier lives through opportunities to socialise and exercise in their local communities”.

Trainees will receive funding towards equipment, venue hire, marketing and other business expenses, while four of these future instructors will also be paid to deliver 12 weeks of classes in GP surgeries. All instructors will be provided with promotional assistance and ongoing support from Move it or Lose it.

Previous experience is not an absolute requirement, however a passion to join this team of trainees and help reduce loneliness in later life is.

Move it or Lose it Ltd was one of 19 social entrepreneurs who successfully responded to an innovation challenge from Transform Ageing, and received funding and support to deliver lasting social impact in the region.

Transform Ageing is a South West England-focused, community-led initiative to change society’s approaches and service designs for older people. The programme is delivered by UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, Design Council, Centre for Ageing Better, and the South West Academic Health Science Network. Transform Ageing is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and delivered by four organisations across the South West, one of which is Torbay Community Development Trust.
