A body found in the sea off Brixham is a yachtsman who went missing last weekend.
Police were called to Breakwater beach after a fisherman spotted a body in the water at around 7.15am yesterday morning.
A spokesperson for Berry Head Coastguard said on Facebook:
“The team was paged by Solent Coastguard following a 999 call from an angler who had spotted a body in the sea to the east of the breakwater. When we arrived onscene RNLI Torbay Lifeboat inshore lifeboat were engaged in recovering the body. They then returned to the lifeboat house to RV with ourselves, police and ambulance crews. The area was sealed off prior to arrival of the SOCO (scenes of crime officer).
“Following investigations it has since been confirmed that the body is that of the yachtsman who went missing last Saturday. A sad conclusion but one that that at least provides some closure for the gentleman’s family. Berry head Team offers its condolences and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time,”
