Brixham harbour cordoned off following bomb scare

Brixham harbour was cordoned off earlier today, Saturday 11th May after an ordnance was brought into the harbour by a trawler.

Police, Coastguard crews and the Royal Navy attended the incident.

Berry Head Coastguard said on Facebook: “Tasked by Maritime and Coastguard Agency to ordnance at Brixham Harbour. At first glance to the untrained eye it didn’t appear to be dangerous.

“Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Plymouth were called to assess the items in the box and it was found to be extremely dangerous, containing over 200 live hand grenade detonators and 3 projectile detonators. EOD removed the items for destruction.

“A timely reminder that items may not seem to be what you think they might be,”
