A woman has appealed to the community to help her find a bureau belonging to her grandmother that was mistakenly sold on gumtree.
The item was was stored at Marianne Berends-Martin’s mother in-laws-house in Torquay when it was sold.
Marianne explains:
“I’m searching desperately for an old writing desk/ bureau mistakenly sold via Gumtree six weeks ago. The bureau is my Dutch grandmother’s.
“I am very close to her- I grew up abroad, and she’d write me long letters and stories on her old bureau and always told me she’d leave the desk to me to write my own stories for my grandchildren when she passed away. When she was moved into a care home I had the desk shipped from Holland to my mother-in-law’s in Torquay to store temporarily.
“I learnt today it was given away and sold via Gumtree around 19 January. I am heartbroken.
“All I have to go on is it may have been a local, middle aged couple or local man is his 40’s. Please if you bought the bureau or know of any other route I can take to try to get it back, please get in touch. The emotional value of the bureau is priceless to me,”
