South Devon MP Caroline Voaden has voted for a Bill that would have set forward a pathway to give 7,400 WASPI women in South Devon compensation.
This comes a month after the Government declined to issue compensation to WASPI women, claiming the taxpayer couldn’t afford it.
Before this decision, it was revealed an independent government review had recommended WASPI women be compensated after suffering an injustice due to a failure to properly inform them of pension age changes.
Caroline Voaden said she was “proud” to vote for the Bill that would’ve righted a “gross injustice.” But she expressed her immense disappointment that Conservative and Labour MPs had failed to back it and promised to “keep fighting” until the 7,400 WASPI women in the local area got the compensation and justice they were owed.
Liberal Democrat MP for South Devon, Caroline Voaden said:
“Yesterday’s vote wasn’t about party politics or ideology. It was simply about what is right, and what is right is fixing this gross injustice that affected thousands of women here in South Devon.
“Since this Labour Government betrayed WASPI women in December, I’ve heard from countless constituents, and today, I was proud to put their words into action by voting for the 7,400 WASPI women in South Devon to get compensation.
“The Liberal Democrats will continue to stand up for the WASPI women at every turn and keep fighting until they get the justice that they are owed.”
