Christmas is coming to Cockington with festive events and activities

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas at Cockington this week as staff and volunteers prepare for a special festive re-opening of the Visitor Centre.

Cockington Visitor Centre, located in the heart of the village, reopens this Saturday 2 December especially for the Christmas period, with a jam packed programme of festive events and activities.

Everyone is welcome to pop along and join in with the special Christmas activities that will include tree dressing, card crafting and wreath making.

Hannah Worthington, Green Heart Officer said’
“Each week there will be a different craft event in the Visitor Centre, starting with tree dressing this weekend, from Sunday 3rd December. So don’t just come once, come every week! We have lots of festive gifts to buy too and a complimentary mince pie to help with the decision making!”

Cockington Visitor Centre Volunteers (L to R): Sue Lawrence, Norma Blackler and Jill Read, with Cockington Visitor Centre Supervisor John Gillett.

Volunteers and members of the Cockington Friends Group have also created a stunning exhibition depicting a year in the life of the Park; a perfect record of all the seasonal colours, changes and developments. There will also be a fun Christmas Photo Booth, complete with props and disguises to snap a festive pic with friends and family!

Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust manage and care for the park and the Visitor Centre. It is hoped the festive programme will raise awareness and funds for the Cockington Green Heart Appeal, whilst offering visitors a charming seasonal experience. The Green Heart Appeal is restoring key heritage assets in Cockington for the benefit of the local community and visitors. So far successfully we have restored the derelict Linhay, now the Visitor Centre, Gamekeeper’s Cottage, desilted the ponds and will be restoring the landscaping around The Lakes over the next two years”.

The Centre is open every day for gift shopping until 22nd December. Our events and activities are taking place on selected dates and we suggest contacting us or checking on the Trust website for more information. www.countryside-trust.org.uk/events
