Optitions have given a big vote of confidence to Totnes town centre by investing in a new store.
Karen Stone and Winnie Maina, who run Paignton Specsavers, have brought their community-focused style to the Fore Street, with state-of-the-art equipment and testing rooms to give locals a modern experience when they visit the store.
Karen, who is joint director at the store, says: ‘In Paignton, Specsavers has been a key part of the town, supporting local events and organisations, and always being available. That’s what we want to be in Totnes.
‘We have a lot of patients from Totnes and South Brent who come to our Paignton store, and they’ve said they are really pleased we have opened a store in Totnes because it’s going to save them a lot of travelling.
‘Totnes is a thriving town, with a great history and an innovative future, and we are delighted to be part of such a forward-looking community.
‘On 1 June we had an open event at the store, where people came along, met our staff for a chat and heard more about what we do.’
As part of its eye care service, the store has the very latest optical coherence tomography machine, which enables trained staff to examine patients’ eyes in more detail than ever before.
In addition, patients are able to have free hearing tests with qualified audiology professionals, as well as help and advice about contact lenses and DVLA eye-testing.
Winnie, the ophthalmic store director, says: ‘Karen and I are Devon people and we’re really excited about being in Totnes.
‘We want to be part of its bright future for years to come. When we’ve spoken to customers in Paignton, they’ve been really positive about us spreading our wings up the road to Totnes and they seem to love the fact that we’re investing in the county.
‘We believe this investment will bring real benefits to our customers, combining the latest eye care and retail technology to provide a highly professional and ultra-modern service.
‘We are currently recruiting local people to ensure we create a customer-friendly environment, and all our staff are dementia-friendly trained. We will also be taking on a local young person as an apprentice this year.
‘We are always keen to employ local people, because we believe in investing in the local talent available, which then has a positive knock-on for the community.’
The store is at 9 Fore Street. Customers can call 01803 849315 for further information or to book an appointment.
