CentrePeace, a community centre in the heart of Paignton is excited to be running a series of free creative workshops over the Summer called “Climate and the community”. The workshops are centred around the UNESCO English Riviera GeoPark .
The workshops follow the success of last year’s Stop- Motion animation workshop, which resulted in the short film ‘The Invisible Storm” . An epic story of a trawler lost at sea, representing the main character’s mental health and wellbeing journey. The film Premiered this year at the Lyceum Theatre in an evening of films with Turning Heads. The film was made in collaboration with John from Emberlense Productions, who is working collaborating on these new workshops with the CentrePeace workshop leaders Shelley, Christina, Sharon and Alex.
The workshops are all offered free to the local community and are there to invite the locals to become more involved and aware of what is around them and what differences they can make to the local environment by reducing their carbon footprint and their own impact on Climate Change. Workshops cover art, textiles and music.
In May we ran a creative poetry project with Artist and Poet Becky Nuttall . Turning words written in a book by over twenty individuals from CentrePeace about the local environment and wellbeing into a series of poems . In July we will be recording voice overs for the poems and turning them into a series of short films. Using footage filmed of the English Riviera Geopark coastline.
On Saturday July 6th Film Composer Alex will be running a film score workshop . Showing the importance of music to a film and how music links to different emotions in film . With examples of different film scores
He has worked on and with a chance to play some musical instruments.
The workshop’s aim is to bring awareness of the GeoPark that is on our doorstep and open your eyes to the beauty that surrounds us where we live that we more often than not take for granted.
All of the work from the collaborative workshops will premiere in an exhibition later this Autumn. This will showcase the creative abilities of the local community and the collaborative work that they produce together.
All the workshops will be advertised on CentrePeace’s website and social media platforms.
We have plans for many more creative workshops, with the latest news on these on CentrePeace’s facebook and website.
