Closure of Watcombe car park postponed

Watcombe beach car park to close

The closure of Watcombe beach car park has been delayed the council have stated today, 23rd October.

The car park was due to close next week on Wednesday due to anti-social behaviour.

There had been no consultation regarding the car park prior to the announcement that it was to close permanently.

There had been confusion due to a sign at the car parking stating it would be closed from Wednesday 3rd November as Wednesday is the 1st November. It was initially thought it was a hoax.

Posting on Facebook today, Torbay Council said:

“The closure of Watcombe car park has been postponed for now.

“For information, and some history on this decision, it was identified as surplus to our service requirements when we undertook the Parking Review in 2016. We unfortunately don’t have the resources to monitor a free car park or to operate a night time only closure. Our Strategic Land Task Group will determine what happens next but at this time we do not have a timeline on when this will be discussed.
“As soon as there is more information available we will let you know,”
