Could your child be the next Andy Murray?

With Andy Murray talking about retirement and Federer losing to Tsitsipas in the Australian Open, it’s time for a new generation of great players and maybe, just maybe, they could come from Devon.

This weekend the South Devon Tennis Centre is hosting a free one off event to introduce children from around the area to the sport.

Paul Butcher, South Devon Tennis Centre’s Director of Tennis explains: “Tennis is a sport for life, a great way for families to get together and have fun. We are so lucky here in South Devon to have our indoor tennis centre and we would love to make this great sport more available to more people.

“This weekend the LTA are putting on a tennis festival with fun tennis activities, inflatables and a play zone and it’s all for free.”

With the support of the Lawn Tennis Association clubs across the country are enabling more young people to have access to tennis, their aim is to build lasting partnerships within communities where tennis can grow and flourish, help clubs like the South Devon Tennis Centre to deliver great services and ultimately grow the number of people who take part in tennis.

To spread the word about the festival this week coaches from the South Devon Tennis Centre have been visiting schools around the South Hams and Plymouth and have been offering free taster sessions during the school day.

As the pinnacle of their week long promotion, children aged 3-10 are being invited to come along 10:30 -12 and 2-3:30 on Saturday 26th or 10:30 on Sunday 27th for some free tennis fun. No need to book – Just turn up
Together let’s think big – this weekend South Devon, 10 years’ time Wimbledon!
