Dartmouth Health and Wellbeing Centre designs unveiled

Exciting plans for a modern £4.7million health and wellbeing centre in Dartmouth have taken another step forward as local people are invited to view new designs showing what the centre could look like.

People in the Dartmouth area are invited to the Guildhall on Monday 16 December any time between 2.30pm and 6.30pm to see newly released graphics and architectural plans for the project and to have their say on them.

The drop-in session is being hosted by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT), which provides community services in the Dartmouth area.

Helen Elkington, Associate Director of Property, for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT), said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming people to the Guildhall on Monday to view the plans. NHS staff and other members of our project team will be there to talk about the designs and the next steps in the project.

“The aim of the new centre is to bring health and wellbeing services under one roof, for the benefit of people in Dartmouth. It will be light, airy and built to modern health and energy standards, providing an improved experience for local people.”

Anyone who cannot make Monday’s event, will be able to view the plans on the website of TSDFT – www.torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk from Tuesday, 17 December.

The centre is planned to be built on part of the land currently used as an overflow for the park and ride at the top of town.

It would provide a wide range of services currently offered by TSDFT at Dartmouth Clinic, which was re-purposed as an interim health and wellbeing centre in 2017. It would also house Dartmouth Medical Practice, Dartmouth Caring, and other services such as a retail pharmacy.

TSDFT is working with NHS Devon Clinical Commissioning Group and South Hams District Council (SHDC), which owns the development site, to progress plans for the scheme.

The NHS continues to hold informal discussions with SHDC as part of ‘pre-planning’, a process designed to help applicants develop a formal planning application.

The next stage is to submit a detailed planning application that would be determined by SHDC. Residents can then have their formal say on the scheme through the planning process.

Under the plans, South Hams District Council (SHDC) will fund and complete the build. The building will then be leased to the NHS.
