A local nurse will be swapping his NHS scrubs for a yellow jumpsuit as he bravely takes on a skydive challenge to raise money for enhancing patient care.
Marco Jimenez, Charge Nurse on Templer ward at Newton Abbot Community Hospital, will be bravely jumping out of a plane to raise much-needed funds for additional equipment, which will support the rehabilitation of stoke and neuro patients on the ward.
The funds will be raised for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity, set up to help improve and enhance patient care by funding equipment and services that can’t be funded by the NHS.
Templer ward operates a wish list of items to support patient care which includes beach balls for use in group sessions, mirror boxes which help retrain the brain after a stroke to build up mobility, jigsaws, and innovative special gloves which help to retrain hands and feet after a stroke or for people with a neurological impairment.
Marco said: “As a registered nurse on the ward, I see first-hand the difference that our care makes to the people who need our support, but with additional resources we can do even more. I’m raising funds to purchase items from the wish list we have on the ward; equipment for our patients that can’t be funded by the NHS.
“These items will make such a difference to people, helping to better support them in their journey to getting home and being able to get the most of life. Every pound donated really does make such a difference to the care we can provide.”
