Devon Contract Waste (DCW) Ltd teams up with the Exeter Chiefs to champion new recycling and sustainability initiatives at Sandy Park

DCW Ltd, a leading provider of waste management and recycling solutions in Devon is proud to announce its partnership with Exeter Chiefs as part of a collaborative effort to promote recycling and sustainability at the Sandy Park stadium. This innovative, new initiative is designed to not only enhance the club’s environmental responsibility, but also encourage fans to recycle more of their match day waste.

As part of an ongoing partnership, DCW will continue to provide the rugby club with tailored waste management services that encompass recycling education and waste data. This includes the introduction of new recycling stations that are strategically placed around the stadium during matches, making it easier for fans and staff to dispose of their waste responsibly, and potentially result in tonnes of recycling being diverted from energy recovery.

The recycling stations consist of three labelled wheelie bins, which will separate both food waste for anaerobic digestion and dry mixed recyclables for energy recovery, from a general waste collection, resulting in a significant improvement for the stadium’s recycling rates and reducing its overall environmental footprint.

Grant Scott, Regional Business Manager at DCW commented; “We are thrilled to partner with Exeter Chiefs and support their commitment to sustainability. Our goal is to make recycling more accessible and efficient for everyone at Sandy Park, and we’re excited to see the positive impact this initiative will have. It has been a real team effort. We’ve already taken part in a successful DCW volunteer day on the first game of the Premiership Rugby season, where members of the SUEZ UK and DCW team were at the stadium to educate fans on how to dispose of their waste effectively to benefit their club and the environment. We have more of these planned for upcoming fixtures at the stadium which we’re really excited about.”

Grant continues; “Food waste reforms are due to come in March 2025 so it’s crucial businesses of all sizes are up to speed with the new regulations and it was great to be able to support Exeter Chiefs on this.”

The new waste management system provided by DCW aligns with the Exeter Chiefs broader sustainability goals, helping to minimise their environmental impact while setting a positive example for fans and the community.

Mark Isaacs, Director of Stadium Operations at Sandy Park commented; “We are always looking for new ways to enhance our sustainability practices, and this recycling initiative with DCW is another fantastic step forward. By making it easier for our fans at Sandy Park to recycle, we’re not only improving our own operations, but we’re also hoping to encourage them to think more sustainably when they leave the stadium.”
