Three fire crews from Bere Alston, Yelverton and Tavistock were initially mobilised to the incident. On arrival crews requested the attendance of a further crew which was sent from Tavistock along with the Incident Command Unit from Totnes.

A 53-year old man was taken to Derriford Hospital where he was declared deceased. The man’s next of kin have been informed. There was no-one else in the property at the time of the fire.

Police are working with the Fire service and investigations continue.

Police have stated that they believe the fire was started accidentally, and therefore are not treating the fire suspicious at this time.
