Devon Partnership NHS Trust (DPT) has been awarded funding for two groundbreaking decarbonisation energy projects, aimed at enhancing sustainability and reducing energy costs across its sites.
Solar panels
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has awarded DPT just over £3m from Great British Energy to install solar panels at Langdon Hospital in Dawlish and other sites including Jasmine Lodge The Junipers and The Cedars in Exeter, the Chadwell Centre in Paignton, St John’s Court in Exmouth and Beech Unit and Haytor Ward on the Torbay Hospital site. The initiative will see the installation of 2,200 solar panels, which is expected to save the organisation almost £250k annually and contribute to overall NHS savings of around £8.6m per year.
Low Carbon Heating Project at Wonford House
DPT has also received a grant of £2.1m from Salix to replace the outdated fossil fuel boilers at its Wonford House HQ in Exeter, with a connection to the Exeter Energy Network (EEN). This Low-to-Zero Carbon (LZC) heat network, currently under construction, will distribute renewable heat from a single Energy Centre to buildings in and around Exeter. DPT anticipates saving approximately109 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually once connected in 2027.
Mark Barriball, Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities at DPT, said:
“We are thrilled to have been successful in securing the funding for both of these projects. They will have a huge impact on our drive to be a greener and more sustainable organisation and also save money that can be redirected into patient care.”
