Independent West Country house builder Devonshire Homes has scooped two prestigious industry awards after a year full of challenges for the housing and construction industry.
The house builder, which currently has active sites in Crediton, Bovey Tracey, Kingsbridge and St. Austell, faced stiff competition to win the Best Partnership with a Local Authority Building Control Team category. During the virtual awards ceremony, Devonshire Homes was also Highly Commended for its Landkey site, Mazzard View, in the Best High-Volume New Housing Development category.
The award success is a result of a long-standing relationship with the LABC Partnership through local councils. Devonshire Homes first started working with the LABC Partnership through the Mid Devon District Council on two projects in Tiverton. Initially with the conversion of the historic Belmont Hospital into 30 apartments, conversion and extension of the gatehouse into a dwelling and construction of 74 new build homes at Gilbert Scott Way. The second was the construction of a mixed-use development consisting of 11 apartments and three retail units with a terrace of 14 houses and apartments at Ginkgo Court.
In Exeter, Devonshire Homes worked with the LABC Partnership and Exeter City Council on Trinity Court in Southernhay which saw a redundant office block converted into 26 luxury apartments complete with an impressive penthouse on the top floor.
Longston Cross in Bovey Tracey is the most recent new homes site that has seen Devonshire Homes join forces with the LABC Partnership. Brand new house types will be making their debut at this site, the styles of which were all reviewed by LABC during their conception. Located on Challabrook Lane, Longston Cross offers a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom properties, including affordable homes. The four bedroom show home has recently opened its door to house hunters, giving them the opportunity to view Devonshire Homes’ high-quality build first-hand. Prices at Longston Cross start from £224,950 for a two bedroom house.
Jane Pearce, Joint Acting Managing Director at Devonshire Homes, commented: “After a year full of challenges, we’re delighted to receive the Highly Commended accolade for our Mazzard View site in and North Devon and to win the award for Best Partnership with a Local Authority Building Control Team at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2020. It’s a real testament to the hard work that has gone into creating such high-quality homes across the region.
“We’ve found that this unique partnership provides excellent communication and prompt action which compliments rather than hinders the build process. This collaborative method of working between the on-site management team and the relevant local authority building control services ensures a positive relationship from design to completion.”
Jane continued: “Despite the housing industry taking a significant hit during the Coronavirus pandemic, Devonshire Homes has returned stronger than ever. Not only have we kick-started our comeback with two titles from the LABC Building Excellence Awards, we’re already reporting great sales figures across our Devon and Cornwall sites. At Longston Cross, we’ve already secured seven sales since the opening of the show home, so the demand is there for high-quality new build homes. We look forward to helping even more house hunters resume their home buying journey.”
