Step One Charity is excited to announce the launch of its BeWell@StepOne summer programme, a valuable resource offering free group-based mental health support to people over the age of 18 across Devon.
BeWell@StepOne empowers people to take control of their mental wellbeing through a range of online courses, workshops and peer support groups, as well as in-person sessions held in Paignton.
Running from August to October 2023, the summer programme offers a variety of topics to support mental health including Stress and Worry Management, Managing Anxiety and Understanding Depression. Sessions are delivered in small, secure groups and led by qualified course leaders with lived experience of mental health challenges. Interested participants can learn more and register today at www.steponecharity.co.uk/bewell.
Step One Charity has been supporting people in Devon with mental health and learning disabilities for over 85 years, and the BeWell@StepOne project aims to support over 500 people per year with free online learning opportunities and support groups. By providing early support and guidance for mental health concerns, Step One hopes to prevent people from falling into a crisis and aims to reduce some of the burden on NHS services.
BeWell@StepOne Project Manager, Sharon Nott, said “BeWell@StepOne is all about making a positive impact on mental health across Devon. Through free resources, courses, and support groups, we want to empower people to prioritise their wellbeing and create a caring community. For Torbay locals, we’re excited to introduce new in-person peer support groups this quarter. Join the Torquay Walking Group for a refreshing outdoor experience connecting with others and the Yoga Wellbeing Group for a calming space to help reduce anxiety and stress. These additions offer wonderful opportunities for local residents to connect and support one another in the Torbay area.”
The BeWell@StepOne project is funded entirely by voluntary donations such as community fundraising efforts, grants, and gifts in wills. To support the charity’s mission in providing mental health support to people across Devon, one-off donations or regular monthly payments can be made via steponecharity.co.uk/donate, or fundraising challenges can be set by contacting the Step One Fundraising team at fundraising@steponecharity.co.uk.
In addition to free courses and support groups for individuals, Step One Charity also offers a support and training programme for businesses across Devon. ‘BeWell for Business’ provides Mental Health First Aid training (NUCO accredited) to help employers and employees understand the signs and symptoms of different mental health problems and to start conversations around mental health in the workplace.
