A dog owner has been prosecuted following the death of a black swan in Dawlish earlier this year.
The black swans died following a vicious attack by a dog who was not on a lead, contrary to the by-law to keep dogs on leads on The Lawns.
Teignmouth and Dawlish neighbourhood police said on Facebook: “Since the incident Dawlish Town Council along with the Local Neighbourhood Policing Team have been assisting Teignbridge District Council legal services to bring a prosecution against the dog owner Mr Ross Norman.
“Yesterday a solicitor on behalf Teignbridge District Council attended court. The Magistrates issued Mr Ross Norman (from Dawlish) the maximum penalty of £500, plus awarded the Council full costs of £473.81.
“This is a fantastic result to be awarded the maximum amount of fine and shows how serious the Magistrates considered this matter to be.
“Thank you to all those who assisted in the prosecution.”
