Electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints are now available to use at Station Lane, Paignton; Town Hall, Torquay; and Brixham Central car parks. A new chargepoint at Hampton Avenue car park, St Marychurch, is also scheduled to go live in the next few weeks. The units are the first of hundreds planned in Torbay under a joint initiative between Torbay Council and Devon County Council.
The roll out of chargepoints will help to provide local motorists with a real choice about the types of vehicles they use. The new local charging network will allow people to make the switch to EVs with confidence. This will positively contribute to both national and local targets for net zero.
Cllr Adam Billings, Cabinet Member for Pride in Place and Parking for Torbay Council, said; “These new chargepoints are part of a larger initiative to make it much easier for people in Torbay to use decarbonised transport options.
“Developing a local charging infrastructure is important if we are to enable our local residents and visitors to choose to use electric vehicles.
“With this following the previous announcement of the decision to decarbonise one of the large bus fleets in Torbay through an investment in electric buses, I am really pleased at the progress Torbay are delivering in this area.”
All EV chargepoint locations can be found on the council’s webpages by searching www.torbay.gov.uk/bycar. The page will be updated as more charging facilities become available.
