An emergency road closure on Ilsham Marine Drive has been put in place by SWISCo, Torbay Council’s Highways contractor between Kilmorie apartments and Thatcher Rock Green – this closure is likely to be in place for several weeks.

This is due to investigations of a potentially unstable slope supporting the public highway.

Last weekend a small void and surface fractures appeared in the highway, leading to the decision to close a section of the road between the Kilmorie apartments and the next closest property extending around the headland.

Although this is likely to have some impact on residents and visitors generally, there will be specific impact on the following areas:

More than 100 properties of residents on Ilsham Marine Drive and connecting roads will currently need to access and exit Ilsham Marine Drive from the top of Ilsham Road at the Kents Cavern end, as opposed to choosing between this point and the lower connection near Meadfoot Beach. Torbay Council will be in touch with residents in the directly affected areas but wanted to get this information out as soon as possible.

South West Water is on site and have started activity to bypass and repair a fractured public sewer pipe.

The lower section of Ilsham Marine Drive (adopted highway near Kilmorie apartments) has been regularly monitored since 2002 following instability of the cliffs and historic landslides.
