Expansion to the Premier Inn at Goodrington Sands approved

Torbay Council’s Development Management Committee has recently approved a planning application for Whitbread to expand the current Premier Inn Hotel at Goodrington Sands.

Premier Inn will expand the existing number of hotel rooms from 33 to 53 as well as making improvements to the car park, increasing the number of car parking spaces to 79.

The investment into the Inn on the Quay will include the re-rendering of the entire restaurant, and the replacement of the existing windows and doors, replacement fascia’s, guttering and roof repairs. The restaurant interior will also be re-decorated. .

Elected Mayor Gordon Oliver said: “It is really good news to see that existing businesses continually want to expand and invest in Torbay. Whitbread have already invested significantly in the local area and this multi million pound project demonstrates growing confidence in the Bay from national brands like Premier Inn.”

Jamie Baker, Property Development for Whitbread, said: “We are delighted to be expanding the Premier Inn at Goodrington Sands by 20 bedrooms. This is a popular hotel, and these additional rooms will help us to meet increasing customer demand in Torbay. We are looking forward to welcoming more guests to this hotel when the extension is completed in June 2018.”

To assist with this extension work Torbay Council will be leasing additional land next to the Inn on the Quay to Whitbread. This land is where the existing public toilet block is situated. While the extension work is being carried out the toilet block will be demolished but when it is complete a new public toilet block will be built. The council has held discussions with the local Community Partnership as to where the best place will be for the new toilet provision.

To ensure members of the public still have access to toilets a temporary unisex toilet will be placed opposite the bike track, in the area known as the Peter Pan area. Although this temporary solution does not house a disabled toilet the public will be directed to a nearby disabled facility.

Whitbread will be preparing the site during the week commencing the 4 December 2017 with work starting on Monday 11 December 2017. Work is targeted to be completed by the end of June 2018.
