If you run a local business or organisation and are thinking about becoming a Fostering Friendly employer, you can find out more at Torbay’s upcoming Jobs Fair.

Torbay Council was accredited as a Fostering Friendly employer by national charity The Fostering Network in 2023 and is now working to encourage others in the Bay to do the same.

Members of the Fostering team will be available to speak to at Torbay Jobs Fair at Torquay Town Hall Assembly Rooms, Castle Circus, TQ1 3DR on Friday 4 October, from 9am to 12pm.

Councillor Nick Bye, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “We were delighted to achieve Fostering Friendly employer status last year and now we really want to encourage other local employers to also consider doing this.

“Our Foster Carers are so important to us and we want to do all we can to support the essential work they do to provide Torbay’s children with a safe and loving home.

“And don’t forget, we always need more Foster Carers in Torbay, so anyone who is attending the Jobs Fair and wants to find out more about Fostering in general can also speak to a member of the team.”

Fostering Friendly employers:

-Actively support fostering and employees who are foster carers
-Provide a flexible working pattern for foster carers
-Allow a flexible working pattern for those going through the fostering application process
-Give a minimum of five days extra leave for those with fostering commitments

Having Fostering Friendly accreditation means:

-Supporting staff who are already foster carers
-Encouraging others who may be thinking about fostering but haven’t yet taken the first step
-Help those looking for an employer with a fostering friendly approach

About Torbay Jobs Fair:

Alongside Torbay Council, over thirty employers will be attending the event, including: The Mercure and Ibis Styles, NHS, SWISCo, BOWA, Riverford Organic Farmers, Torbay Pharmaceuticals, The Riviera International Centre and many more.
