The first phase of works to repair and refurbish the ‘people’s pontoon’ is complete.

Over the winter months work took place to refurbish and paint the main bridge to the pontoons, new electrical cables fitted, and pontoon legs and berthing fingers replaced on the walkway adjacent to Beacon Quay.

The Dock remained open and operational to users whilst work took place.

Works began in October 2021 after Cabinet approved a £1.2million investment to make necessary infrastructure and safety improvements after signs of deterioration were identified.

The Town Dock at Torquay Harbour was installed in 2007 and was built to accommodate 175 berths for vessels ranging from six metres to 13 metres in length.

Cllr Nicole Amil, Chair of the Harbour Committee, said; “The Town Dock is a busy and popular dock among locals, visitors, and sports clubs. These essential improvements will ensure it remains safe and useable for many more years to come. We’d like to thank customers for their patience and cooperation during the works as some aspects required vessels to be moved around.”

A second phase of refurbishment works will be starting in the autumn of this year.
