Foster carers still being recruited in Torbay

Foster carers are still needed in Torbay despite the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, and Torbay Council’s Fostering team is still available both online and on the phone, although they had to make some temporary changes to the way the service is run.

The Fostering team has also written to all local Foster Carers in Torbay to reassure them that the team is here to provide advice and support where needed.

Councillor Cordelia Law, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services for Torbay Council, said: “It’s a very worrying time for everyone but we just want to send a clear message that Torbay’s fostering service is very much open for business. Our team are available over the phone or via email and would love to hear from any potential new Foster Carers, and are also working hard to make sure foster carers and looked after children get the care and support they need.”

Nancy Meehan, Director of Children’s Services for Torbay Council said: “Please do get in touch if you are thinking of fostering, or if you’re a local foster carer and need any help. There are currently 367 looked after children in Torbay and 79 fostering households.

“Although we can’t currently run our drop-in information sessions due to social distancing guidelines and we will have to minimise home visits during this period, the fostering service is still here for you.

“So whether you’re thinking about becoming a foster carer, or you’re a foster carer that needs to speak to the team, please get in touch with our fostering service – call 01803 207845 or email fostering@torbay.gov.uk

More information on who can foster is available on the Torbay Council website at www.torbay.gov.uk/fostering
