“Don’t leave it to the last minute” to nominate is the advice of organisers of the widely anticipated annual Teignbridge Sports and Community Awards.
Midnight on 17 February 2020 is the deadline for nominations in the 14 different categories which recognise volunteers, unsung heroes, individuals, teams and organisations which strive to promote healthy living, the environment and sporting activity.
As well as age group categories for individuals and teams, there are also opportunities to nominate businesses and charities which make specific contributions to sport and the community, as well as an award for the community school of the year and for the first time recognition for those who champion environmental issues.
Portfolio lead for Sport, Recreation and Culture, Councillor Andrew MacGregor said: “Across Teignbridge there are lots of people who really leave their mark as a result of their individual or collective efforts to deliver fantastic achievements in sport, community activity or the environment.
“We want to recognise as many of those people and organisations as possible and the only way we can do this is by people across the District nominating those who make sporting, community and environmental contributions.”
Councillor MacGregor urged people to complete the straightforward nomination forms and not to leave it till the last minute when meeting the deadline might take priority over making the best case for an individual, team or organisation.
The long-running Awards, which are again sponsored by Kitsons Solicitors, reflect Teignbridge District Council’s commitment, as set out in its 10 year strategy, to tackle environmental issues; maximise opportunities for healthy, active lifestyles; and to provide great leisure facilities, open spaces and events accessible to local communities.
Those short-listed will be invited to the presentation evening in Dawlish on Friday 1 May 2020 where films of the nominees will be shown and their achievements celebrated.
