Researchers at University College London are currently working on a 3-year study about growing up in coastal towns.
We’re asking people aged 60+ what it was like in Torquay, Paignton or Brixham during the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, looking at education, employment, health, leisure opportunities, and life chances.
Our work is feeding into policy discussions about the future of coastal towns, and we will present our findings to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities this summer.
On Thursday 20th and do 10am-12pm, we will host a two-hour workshop in Paignton Library with 6 – 8 people who:
· Are over the age of 60
· Spent their teenage years in Torquay, Paignton or Brixham
This arts-based workshop will focus on your teenage years in the area – the opportunities that were available as well as any challenges you feel you faced growing up in a coastal town.
We will also discuss how the area has changed over time, and your thoughts on what growing up in the area is like for young people now.
