Guest Blog: Beth’s big walk for the NHS

Hi, my name is Beth, I’m 7 years old, from Paignton, and I go to Sacred Heart School.

In the last year, lots of my family have been looked after by the NHS, all at Torbay Hospital.

First, my Mum was very poorly for a long time and they couldn’t find out what was wrong with her. They looked after her for 10 days in hospital, and she then found out that she had Addison’s Disease. She’s OK now, but they always look after her at her regular meetings with her doctors and she has to take tablets every day for the rest of her life.

Then, my Grandma had an accident and broke both of her wrists. This hurt a lot and made things very hard for my Grandma, but the staff at Torbay Hospital helped her to get better and this made me so happy.

This year, my step-dad got pneumonia, sepsis and multi-organ failure. He was in a coma for a long time and in hospital for nearly a month. The NHS staff at the hospital and in the intensive care unit saved his life and looked after me, my sister Connie, my little brother Jonty, and my Mum and family.

The NHS have done so much for me and my family and I wanted to raise some money for them. I decided to do a sponsored walk as I love walking, so I am walking 20 miles in one week, starting on Sunday 3rd May 2020.

I want to raise as much money as possible, so if anyone is able to donate anything at all I would be very happy for the NHS. You can donate to support my sponsored walk by visiting my JustGiving page below.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting me and donating to the NHS.
I promise I will walk the full 20 miles in the one week period and I will update my Just Giving page every day that I walk.

Lots of love to the NHS and everyone, please Stay Safe.
Beth McMahon, 7 ¾
