Hartop Road incident: Police appeal for witnesses

Hartop Road, Torquay closed due to serious incident

Police closed the road

Police are still appealing for witnesses after a woman was seriously assaulted in the street in Torquay on Wednesday 23rdMarch.

Officers were called to Hartop Road at around 5.30am to reports of a serious assault. The incident involved a man and woman who were known to each other. The woman, who is 41, is in Derriford hospital in a serious but stable condition. The man, aged 42, is currently in Torbay hospital being treated for serious injuries. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and awaits police interview.

Detective Inspector Gregg Dawe from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “I would like to reassure residents that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances that surround this incident and in particular are reviewing a large amount of CCTV”.
