Ideas for the future at free festival

Children and young people from across Torbay will be getting together to launch the Imagine This… project with a festival next month.

Twenty-six organisations have united, led by the Torbay Community Development Trust to ask youngsters to imagine the type of Bay they want to grow up in.

The Torbay Imagination Festival is being held on Saturday, September 21st from 2-8.00pm at Parkfield in Colin Road, Paignton to help create what the organisers call an ‘explosion of ideas for the future’.

There will be art, food, music games, technology, workshops and entertainment at the day-long free festival which aims to attract children, young people and families to share ideas and concepts for the Torbay of the future.

One of the Imagine This… partnership managers Johanna Morrell said: “We are so excited to be launching our two year Imagine This… Partnership at the Festival of Imagination at Parkfield.

“It will be our first opportunity as a partnership to open our doors to Torbay’s children, young people and their families and to hear from them first hand about the issues that are important to them.

“One of our key aims for Imagine This… is that everything we do over the next two years will be designed by children and young people. This event is part of our ongoing conversations with them, and part of a collaboration to make Torbay a better place to grow up.

“Torbay’s children and young people have already told us that their big concerns are about the environment in which they live, their mental health, that there are not enough activities for the over 11 age range, and that they need to feel safer on their streets and in their communities. This social action event will be designed to help us think creatively about solutions to these problems.”

The lottery-funded Imagine this…. Partnership wants to put children and young people in the lead, finding creative ways to support them to have a louder voice in Torbay about what they think would make their lives better.

At the core is an ambitious vision to support young people’s charities and projects in the voluntary and community sector to work together instead of competing for funding at a time when children’s services in Torbay have been in crisis for more than a decade.

Imagine This.. is turning to the people that know what they need and know what they aspire to, the young people themselves and it is backed with £500,000 funding from the Community Lottery Fund.
