How Torquay Votes

Torbay businesses working in the construction supply chain are invited to the event at 3pm – to 4.30pm on Friday 17 June at Torbay Business Centre, Lymington Road, Torquay.

Torbay Council representatives will be attending along with Kier Construction and their Tier 2 sub-contractors to share details and engage with local SMEs about the upcoming opportunities.

The event includes workpackage presentations and networking opportunities with the contractors, and complimentary refreshments.

It is open to all Torbay-based businesses in the following supply chain services:

-Bricklaying
-Landscaping
-Painting

Chair of Torbay’s CWB Board and Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, Councillor Swithin Long said: “This Meet the Buyer event is a great example of Community Wealth Building in practice. We want the contracts and spend from our regeneration projects to benefit as many Torbay businesses and residents as possible, so I urge local businesses in the construction supply chain to come along and see what opportunities are on offer.

“Kier and their sub-contractors are also working with Build Torbay on employment and skills plans that will offer jobs and training to Torbay residents through these contracts; and they’re delivering classroom activities and engagement events in Torbay schools to inspire young people to take up rewarding construction careers.”

Deputy Leader of Torbay Council and Cabinet Member for Finance, Councillor Darren Cowell said: “The redevelopment of the Lymington Road Coach station site and Torquay Gateway are significant and exciting regeneration projects that will boost the economy and create thriving spaces in Torbay.

“We’re delighted that the Community Wealth Building approach is reaping real dividends for local residents and businesses through these contracts with Kier and their sub-contractors. We want Torbay businesses working in the construction supply chain to come and ‘Meet the Buyer’ on 17 June to find out what contracts are on offer as part of these £10M regeneration schemes.

Regional Director at Kier Construction, Doug Lloyd, said: “We are delighted to be hosting a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event later this month in Torquay.

“Events like these help demonstrate our commitment to delivering social value by engaging with local businesses in the construction supply chain as well as with council representatives.

“We would like to encourage as many local businesses to register for the free event ahead of the deadline.”

The event is free to attend by email registration to fallon.hart@kier.co.uk before 13 June 2022. Places are limited and priority will be given to businesses based in Torbay.
