Launch of Hear & Now listening stations at Torbay Libraries

Hear & Now is an intergenerational, Torbay-wide exploration and celebration of the stories and memories that bind us together as a community. Over the last two years, young and old have conducted interviews together, recording the histories and anecdotes of people in Torbay at events, in libraries, care homes, schools and community centres in a wide variety of ways.

We are launching listening stations including a wonderful egg chair and side-booth with tablet and headphones attached which will enable and hopefully encourage existing and new visitors to the libraries and Brixham museum to uncover and enjoy the wonderful tales Torbay’s residents have told us.

How Torquay Votes

“This is such a great project, helping us to really bring the stories of Brixham to life. We’re not sure who enjoys the process more, those telling their memories or those listening to them. We’re delighted to be previewing the pod in Brixham, it’s an asset to the Museum.” Sasha Rakonersty, Brixham Museum.

Sound Communities and Ocean Youth Radio worked in partnership with Libraries Unlimited. Torbay Community Development Trust, The Tale, Brixham Museum, Torquay Museum, For Your Age, Eyeview, International Agatha Christie Festival, Local History Groups, Local Primary Schools, Youth Genesis, Acorn Centre, The Edge, PHAB club, Parkfield Children in Care, Torquay, and many care homes.

This work is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Ageing Well Torbay, Devon Community Foundation, Torbay Council, The National Lottery Community Fund and Sanctuary Housing.
