Update: The fire has spread to the roofspace and air conditioning ducts. Emergency services remain at the scene with around 70 firefighers present. Crews are making steady progress. All the people in the leisure centre have been accounted for. There were 2 injured people – one with a minor burn and one with smoke inhalation. The public are asked to please avoid the Alphington Road and Exe Bridges area, as this is adding to the congestion.

Fire crews from around South Devon are currently at a major fire in Exeter.

The leisure centre has been evacuated. One person, suffering from smoke inhalation was being treated at the scene.

Fire crews were called to the Riverside Leisure Centre on Cowick Street this afternoon to reports of a fire in the first floor sauna, with the health suite being confirmed as well alight.

Appliances from Exeter, Exmouth, Crediton, Ottery St Mary, Cullompton, Teignmouth, Bovey Tracey and Torquay are in attendance.

Police are also in attendance and traffic is slow in and around the area.

Due to large fire at Riverside Leisure Centre public are advised to avoid Exe Bridges and Alphington Road #Exeter
