Lidl has confirmed that its first-ever store in Bovey Tracey will officially open its doors on Thursday 5th December, just in time for Christmas. To mark the occasion, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held, with Mayor Sheila Brooke and Town Clerk Mark Wells in attendance.
The new store, located on Monks Way, will be open 8am–10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am–4pm on Sundays, offering Bovey Tracey residents access to Lidl’s award-winning range of high-quality, great-value products. With Christmas just around the corner, residents can stock up on festive treats, such as Deluxe Crisps in seasonal flavours like Pigs in Blankets and Lobster Cocktail (£1.25), Deluxe All Butter Mince Pies (£2.99), and Deluxe Gift-Wrapped Panettone (£9.99).
Spanning a sales area of 1,256m², the store features Lidl’s popular bakery, the Middle of Lidl, and customer-friendly facilities such as baby-changing amenities and ample parking for cars and bicycles. Shoppers can enjoy Lidl Plus offers and complimentary food samples throughout the opening weekend.
This multi-million-pound investment brings more than just quality shopping to Bovey Tracey —it’s set to boost the local economy with the creation of up to 40 new jobs. Underscoring Lidl’s commitment to its colleagues, new starters will receive one of the highest rates of pay in the sector.
Rosie Meehan, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented: “We’re so excited to open our first store in Bovey Tracey, just as the Christmas season gets underway! Those that previously travelled to Kingsteignton can now pick up their favourite Lidl festive treats closer to home, whilst new customers get to experience a Lidl Christmas for the first time. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with the community and welcoming shoppers through our doors.”
This year also marks Lidl’s 30th anniversary in Great Britain, underscoring three decades of providing shoppers with its unbeatable combination of quality and affordability. With more customers choosing to shop at Lidl, the discounter has consistently been named the fastest growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket for over a year.
