Lifeworks College is a local Independent Specialist FE College for young adults with learning disabilities, and is a part of Lifeworks Charity based in Dartington.
Inspected under the new FE regulations, the College was rated ‘good’ in effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for students.
The inspectors stated that the students, who attend the College on a full-time, daily basis enabling them to stay living within their local community, “quickly develop good employability skills as a result of a very good work experience programme”.
This supports the College’s aim to give their students every opportunity to become part of the local workforce, whilst becoming more independent as adults. The inspectors stated that the College’s “emphasis on preparing students for adult life is very strong”.
The College is especially pleased that the inspectors acknowledged that their students often arrive with low expectations of their abilities- but these are challenged by the College which “broadens their horizons and develops the skills necessary to become a successful adult”.
Lifeworks College now aims to build on this recent inspection to gain an ‘outstanding’ result its next inspection.
