Devon based homebuilder Barratt Homes has donated £1,500 to the Cherrybrook day case chemotherapy unit at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, through the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity. This contribution is part of the housebuilder’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities through its community fund initiative.
The donation was made in honour of Roger, a family friend of a Barratt team member. Roger sadly passed away in 2020 after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. During his treatment, Roger spent considerable time at the Cherrybrook unit, where he received exceptional care and support. The staff member nominated the charity to give back to the unit for the outstanding care provided to Roger and the invaluable support extended to his family during a difficult time.
Royal Devon Hospitals Charity supports two acute hospitals, 17 community hospitals, and various specialist and primary care services across North, Mid, and East Devon. The charity aims to enhance NHS funding by supporting the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, creating world-class patient and staff environments, funding additional staff development and training, and investing in cutting-edge research.
Cherrybrook is a day case chemotherapy unit and acute oncology triage unit, specialising in caring for people with cancer. Patients are supported by a multidisciplinary team and volunteers from FORCE cancer charity are on hand to provide support and information.
The funds will be used to further improve the facilities and services at the Cherrybrook unit, ensuring that patients continue to receive the highest standards of care in a compassionate and supportive environment.
Andrea Pilgrim, Sales Director at Barratt Homes, said: “We were moved by the story behind this nomination and are honoured to support the incredible work of the Cherrybrook unit. The dedication and care shown by the staff at Cherrybrook make a real difference to so many people in our community. We hope this donation will help them continue to provide their outstanding services.”
Debbie Allen, Community Fundraiser at Royal Devon Hospitals Charity, said: “We are hugely grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter for their generous donation. This contribution will help us continue to provide vital support to patients and staff at Cherrybrook. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together to honour Roger’s memory and support others facing similar challenges.”
