Local radio station Breeze announced this morning that they would be funding the lights in Torquay this Christmas.
It looked like the town centre would be set to be dull after an announcement by Torquay Chamber of Commerce last month that there would be no lights this year.
An online fund to pay for the lights set up by Susie Colley raised just a few hundred pounds out of the £25,000 target.
Businesses across Torquay stepped forward with offers to help fund the lights with Breeze announcing today that they will fund the cost.
Nick Jackson the new presenter of The Breeze breakfast show said: “I, like everyone else here in Torquay, was absolutely gutted to learn that there would be no Christmas lights this year.”
“I genuinely could not be happier to announce that we at The Breeze have been able to ensure that the Christmas lights in Torquay will once again shine brightly this year.”
“The festive lights switch on really starts the season and we could not let our listeners in South Devon miss out on such an intrinsic part of Christmas. I hope everyone will join me on Saturday 19 November for the big switch on and we will be announcing more exciting details for this very special event soon.”
