#LoveTheatreDay – come have have a free tour at the Palace Theatre!

The Palace Theatre in Paignton is inviting everyone to enjoy a free backstage tour as part of #LoveTheatreDay on Wednesday 15 November 2017, you will also have an opportunity to have your say on what the Palace Theatre should offer the community – in order to make the most of this busy arts space.

Cllr Nicole Amil, Executive Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours, said: “#LoveTheatreDay is run in association with The Stage, the theatre industry’s main publication and involves theatres from across the country. The aim is to inspire people to find out more about their local theatre, consider a career in the arts and build a lifelong habit of theatre-going.”

Theatre Manager, Maureen McAllister says: “The Palace Theatre has a long and very proud history and every effort is being made to see this continue long into the future. #LoveTheatreDay is the perfect opportunity for us to share some of this amazing history and also to hear how the people of Paignton and Torbay would like to see the theatre developing the years to come.”

Backstage tours will take visitors behind the scenes to see the dressing rooms, the technicians control desk and the Aladdin’s Cave basement used to store costumes, scenery and props for the many arts groups using the space. Visitors can also stand on the stage and find out what it feels like to be in the spotlight.

There will also be the opportunity to #AskATheatre posing question to a panel of managers and producers connected with the Palace Theatre about productions and you will also be able to discuss ideas which will help shape the future of this community asset.

The day is being supported by South Devon College BA Leadership and Management student, Jenny Bindon who will lead on this community consultation around the future theatre offer.
