Nature has been a great support to many over the last year and we wanted to honour and celebrate it, by bringing the outdoors inside. We invited artists to initially use ‘Spring’ as their inspiration to encourage looking forward to brighter times.

In our Kitchen Gallery, you will find an amazing selection of unique art and crafts on display, including sculptures, paintings, ceramics, photographs and lampshades. All of our exhibits have been cleverly crafted by talented local artists and craft makers including: James Murch, Angela Uren, Michelle Greenwood-Brown, Corina Barrell, Laure Bury, Bridget Arnold, Marissa Wakefield, Samantha Aspden, Allan Punton, Zak McMillan, Stuart Mcmillan, Allan Punton and more.

Alongside promoting our new exhibition programme, we are also excited to announce that one of the talented local artists exhibiting in Unfurl, the emerging plein air artist James Murch, takes up our Artist in Residency 2021-2022 position.

Cockington Court Director Marissa Wakefield instantly recognised James’s creative talent. “Offering James our Artist in Residency position allows him to have quality time to concentrate on his work and to explore and develop his own personal style much further, using the stunning surroundings here for daily inspiration” explains Marissa.

The residency includes mentoring by Marissa, access to marketing and inclusion into the creative community here at Cockington Court.

James has now taken on a private studio here within our stunning cob barn where he can be regularly seen sketching and painting. His work, a new spring series of plein art paintings, including his first very large scale painting, will also feature in this year’s exciting four season Unfurl programme of exhibitions.

Unfurl will run until Spring 2022, changing with the emerging seasons.

Marissa continued, “We hope all of our visitors feel inspired and uplifted by the art work selected and that the Unfurl exhibition brings positivity, joy and hope to all those who come and visit.”
